Diagnostics

As part of a major re-write to the Radar Operating System, the software at the Goose Bay radar has been upgraded to include some useful real-time diagnostics.

Raw A/D Display

Software at the radar site stores the first set of A/D samples taken during an integration periods and then transmits them over the internet link to APL. The Java Applet below then displays them in real-time.

FFT Display

As part of the digital receiver upgrade at Goose Bay, the technique for determing a clear frequency has been changed. Now, the receiver bandwidth is opened up to 2MHz and a 512 point FFT is performed on the power of the received signal. This can then be used to locate the frequency with the lowest noise.

Software at the radar site sends the result of the FFT over the internet link to APL. The Java Applet below can then display it in real-time and represents the spectra 1MHz above and below the center frequency of the receiver.
