Travel to Chincoteague and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Center
Chincoteague, Virginia is located approximately 160 miles from the Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) and 200 miles from the Washington Dulles Airport (IAD). Travel time by car from BWI to Chincoteague is approximately 3.5 hours and from IAD to Chincoteague is approximately 4.5 hours. It is assumed that some participants will be traveling in groups or with families and will want to have the availability of a car while in Chincoteague, while others will prefer to travel to Chincoteague with a chartered bus. These are the only two reasonable options. Assuming that enough participants rent cars, we can arrange for a single bus to pick up the remaining participants at both airports and bring them to the Refuge Inn. The charter bus can hold up to 55 passengers and the cost of the trip if the bus is near capacity will be approximately $40/person. A similar cost will be incurred at the end of the meeting to return to the Washington area airports. Since it is important that we get an early count as to the number of participants that will use the charter bus option, we request that all participants indicate on their Room Reservation forms how they intend to arrive in Chincoteague. The bus charter costs will be collected as a supplement to the registration fee, since not all participants will use this option.
