SuperDARN 2006

Clearance to visit the site of the JHU/APL HF radar at Wallops Flight Facility

One of the highlights of the 2006 SuperDARN meeting will be an excursion to the site of the new HF radar at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). This is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, June 7. The WFF is best known for launching rockets and requires visitors to observe NASA security protocols. These vary according to nationality.

U.S. Nationals:

We can proceed with the security processing for you based on the information that you submit with your registration form; no action is required on your part unless we specifically request it.

Non-U.S. Nationals:

If you are not a U.S. citizen we will require from you the following two items:

  1. A filled-out Foreign Visitor Information Sheet (FVIS) - this is a Word document that you can open and edit directly. We have posted a dummy document (labeled 'FVIS_dummy.doc') and filled in entries for a 'Tom Thumb' of Leicester, UK. Simply overwrite the underlined entries with your specific information and leave the generic underlined entries as they are. Rename the document to identify yourself, e.g., 'VFIS_Lester.doc'. If you do not require a visa to visit the U.S., then you are done with this document. If you do require a visa, and you have the visa in hand, please enter the visa information where requested in the shaded blocks. If you have not received your visa yet, leave the shaded blocks blank.

  2. A scanned image of the main page of your passport. This should show your picture and vital information. Name the passport image file for yourself, e.g., 'Passport_Lester.jpg'. Please ensure that your scanned image is of sufficient resolution to be legible.

Please e-mail these items (VFIS, passport image) to me by April 7, 2006. This will give us enough time to deal with any delays or additional requests that result from the security review.

The address for mailing your items is:mike.ruohoniemi@jhuapl.edu.

Visa Travelers:

If you require a visa to travel to the U.S., then the Wallops Security Office will need a record of it. If you have the visa in hand, scan it into an image and e-mail this to me along with the two items described above (VFIS, passport image). If you do not have your visa yet, send me the other two items now and e-mail a scanned image of your visa when it arrives.
